Hi all!

Is anybody here?

I am not a Lacanian, but I'm hoping to find a little information here about his flavour of psychoanalysis. Maybe someone wants to help? What should I read first? There seems to be so much to choose from on this site.

I'm also suprised there's nothing much on the board. I learned much about psychoanalysis from here, but I still need to read the primary texts.

I'm currently reading Freud's Introductory Lectures to Psycho-Analysis (1917). I feel it's a better idea to understand Freud first before getting into Lacan.

It's nice to see some activity here! You are the first two to post in this discussion board--thank you!

I wish I could point you to a page on this site that could provide a good overview of Jacques Lacan and Lacanian psychoanalysis. I should really get around to making one. (Alas, everything on this site is a work-in-progress...)

In the meantime, I'd like to recommend the book "Jacques Lacan", by Sean Homer, as part of the Routledge Critical Thinkers series. It is written in clear language, and is fairly short. It served as my own basic introduction to Lacan years ago in college. Note that the book is mainly concerned with presenting (in simplified form) Lacanian concepts for the purpose of theory, rather than for the psychoanalytic couch (for that, see below for three other recommendations). The page here includes links to where you may find a PDF copy of the book online (for free). Enjoy!

Update: One or two other introductory books on Lacanian psychoanalysis, which may be these two:
