The case was widely reported in the press at the time, and [[Lacan]] tried gradually to piece together the logic behind her apparently irrational [[act]]. His [[thesis]] introduced a new concept into the [[psychiatry|psychiatric milieu]], that of "[[self-punishment paranoia]]".
