Call me paranoid. But when I'm walking behind someone -- say a girl -- in a parking lot, on the way to my car, I'm always ''very'' self-conscious about the distance I maintain towards that person. It seems no distance is far enough so as to deny any suspicion that person might have that I am following, even ''stalking'' them, but I'm not!
