[[Freud]]'s new model of the [[mind]] or [[psyche]] consisted of three separate component parts:
* the [[id]],
* the [[ego]], and
* the [[superego]]
In [[Freud]]'s second theory of [[mental]] [[structure]] -- the "[[structural theory]]", the [[mind]] is divided into the three "agencies" of [[ego]], [[superego]] and [[id]].
In this model, in the second [[topography]], the [[unconscious|unconscious system]] is replaced by the agency of the [[id]], but [Freud]] continues to use "[[unconscious]]" as an adjective, no one agency is identical to the [[unconscious]], since even the [[ego]] and the [[superego]] have [[unconscious]] parts.
Freud recognized that the term ‘unconscious’ was better used as a descriptive adjective rather than as a topographical noun. Although everything that was repressed was unconscious, not everything unconscious was repressed.
